The news article reports that the surging oil prices had made Thailand suffer from inflation.
The concept of cost-pull inflation (CPI) is relevant to the analysis; CPI shows the relation between price level (P) and GDP (Y). As oil prices rise there’s an increase in initial cost of production and decrease of short-run aggregate supply (SRAS).
The rise of price oil has rise and to cope with the inflation, interest rates of the central bank of Thailand is increased by 2.75%. The diagram below illustrates the statement given below.
In oil prices=> cost of production => SRAS=>SRAS curve shifts left

Consider an initial equilibrium is at full employment. Fall in SRAS is illustrated in a leftward shift from SRAS to SRAS1. The new macroeconomics equilibrium is where the SRAS curve SRAS1, intersects the aggregate demand curve (AD). As a result, in a fall in equilibrium output produced falls from Y to Y1 resulting in recessionary gap.
Therefore the fall in SRAS, rise of oil prices and cost of production will lead to recessionary gap.
